Sources & methodology

Editorial
methodology.

Profiles link to source documentation. Evidence categories distinguish manufacturer statements, technical documentation, independent testing and editorial analysis.

Source documentation

Product specifications link to manufacturer documentation or official product pages. Each profile gives the date those sources were checked. Specifications, service terms and prices can change after that date.

Evidence categories

  • Manufacturer claim: a statement about a product made by its maker. It is attributed, not treated as independent validation.
  • Technical documentation: published specifications, manuals or developer resources. These describe an implementation; they do not prove real-world performance.
  • Independent testing: separately identified testing with a disclosed method. The current catalog does not include hands-on tests performed by this project.
  • Analysis: our interpretation of the cited material, clearly labeled and open to revision.

Comparison criteria

We compare documented fields, not invented scores. Missing fields remain visible. Different numerical precisions, test conditions and device categories are not collapsed into a ranking.

“Local capable” describes a supported configuration. It is not a promise that every feature runs offline or that an application never shares data.

Pricing

We identify listed currency and price conditions where available. Hardware cost and recurring service cost are separate fields.

Corrections and changes

Use the source links on each profile to check the underlying evidence. Corrections should identify the device, the specific field and an updated primary source. When a record changes, its source and checked date should change with it.

Where a source contradicts itself, the profile records the discrepancy rather than choosing an unsupported answer.

Catalog scope

The directory covers a curated selection of devices in its listed categories.
